Risk of Pulmonary Embolism After Cerebral Venous Thrombosis

چکیده
Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) often affects young patients and can result in substantial disability and death. Though mortality rates among patients with CVT have declined, new epidemiological data suggests a higher annual incidence of CVT than previously reported. A diagnosis of CVT is associated with subsequent risk of venous thromboembolism, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), and recurrent CVT, contributing to the adverse clinical outcomes of some CVT patients. However, whether the risk of recurrent venous thromboembolism after CVT is similar to that after a diagnosis of DVT has not been carefully explored. To help quantify the disease burden of CVT, we used a large heterogeneous group of patients to evaluate the risk of incident PE, a particularly dangerous form of venous thromboembolism, among patients with CVT as compared with those with DVT. Evaluation of Guidelines and Risk Factors for Venous Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism in Hospitalized Children: A Cross-Sectional Study
Background: Thromboembolism (TE) in pediatric population is rare but may be a fatal situation. There is a lack of clinical guidelines to help decision making for the use of prophylactic measures in pediatrics. This study was designed to evaluate current guidelines and risk factors for the prevention of venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (DVT/PE) in children. Materials and Methods: Th...
متن کاملFrequency of the 20210 G3A Mutation in the 3*-Untranslated Region of the Prothrombin Gene in 35 Cases of Cerebral Venous Thrombosis
Background and Purpose—A novel sequence variation in the 39-untranslated region of the prothrombin (factor II) gene (nucleotide 20210 G3A) has been recently described as a risk factor for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. It is found in '1% to 4% of healthy subjects. We studied the frequency of this factor II variant in patients with cerebral venous thrombosis. Methods—The 20210A all...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE A novel sequence variation in the 3'-untranslated region of the prothrombin (factor II) gene (nucleotide 20210 G-->A) has been recently described as a risk factor for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. It is found in approximately 1% to 4% of healthy subjects. We studied the frequency of this factor II variant in patients with cerebral venous thrombosis. METHO...
متن کاملLong-term evaluation of the risk of recurrence after cerebral sinus-venous thrombosis.
BACKGROUND The clinical course of cerebral sinus-venous thrombosis (CSVT) is largely unknown because prospective studies with a long follow-up and with the goal to assess thrombosis recurrence rate and predisposing factors for recurrence are lacking. METHODS AND RESULTS One hundred forty-five patients with a first CSVT were followed up for a median of 6 years after discontinuation of anticoag...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Frequency of Risk Factors in Venous Thromboembolic Patients Admitted to Ekbatan and Farshchian Hospitals in Hamadan from 2012 to 2017
Background and Objective: Venous thromboembolism is one of the major causes of mortality worldwide. Various environmental and genetic factors are known as risk factors for this disease. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the frequency of risk factors in patients with venous thromboembolism admitted to Ekbatan and Farshchian hospitals in Hamadan from 2012 to 2017. Materials and Methods:...
